One of the most beloved series of movies to come out in recent years was actually based on a ride in a theme park. Pirates of the Caribbean took the world by storm – much to the surprise of some naysayers, who thought Disney was making a blunder. I had always thought the movies would do well – you can’t really ever go wrong with Johnny Depp; and Orlando Bloom was already a bona fide star from the first Lord of the Rings film. The story too had a lot to do with the popularity of the movies. However, something happened that I had not anticipated – I didn’t realize that they would be making replicas of the movie swords. I should have known this – they make replicas of weapons from just about every type of movie today. I also didn’t anticipate how well they would sell. It seems like everyone wants to be Captain Jack Sparrow!

Recent years have seen a number of movies in which the sword plays a central role. It is impossible to think of a film like Highlander or Excalibur without the movie swords that help to make them so appealing to fans like myself. Even Star Wars wouldn’t be the same without the lightsaber battles. It is probably for this reason that I started collecting replicas of movie swords to supplement the medieval replicas that already adorn my walls. The great thing about collecting replicas from films is that so many different genres of films are represented. There are katanas from The Last Samurai and Kill Bill, and there are claymores from Braveheart. You can even get the Sword of Gryffindor from the Harry Potter films or a cutlass just like Jack Sparrow’s from Pirates of the Caribbean. No matter your taste in movies, there is sure to be something that will appeal to you.
